September Newsletter 2025

The past few months have been nothing short of incredible. From new milestones to powerful community moments, our Brothers continue to shine with passion, humility, mateship, and a growth mindset.

At Brothers Support Network, our purpose is clear: changing lives for the better. Every day, we stand alongside men with disabilities to create opportunities for independence, belonging, and growth.

Our vision is bold and future-focused: to be a nationwide community of Brothers transforming the way disability support is delivered to men. Our Brothers are true professionals who bring more than care; they bring connection, consistency, and compassion. Together, we provide services that don’t just meet needs but change lives and futures.

As we head into the final quarter of the year, there’s so much to celebrate: the launch of our SIL House Division, new community events, expos, and the many milestones achieved by our Brothers. And there’s even more to look forward to: our Christmas celebrations, new houses, and the continued growth of a community that is building something unique across Queensland and beyond.

Fred's Big Run

Supporting the Fred Hollows Foundation

This July, one of our participants Josh has been raising money for the Fred Hollows Foundation, an incredible organisation dedicated to ending avoidable blindness and improving eye health around the world.

One of their big initiatives is Fred’s Big Run, a challenge where people commit to running, walking, or moving throughout August to raise funds for this life-changing cause.

It’s been an absolute pleasure to get involved with Josh on his fundraising journey and to see the passion he’s brought to supporting such an important mission. We’re so proud of him for taking on this challenge!

Quarterly Spotlight

Men's Mental Health & Wellbeing

October highlights two important dates on our calendar: World Mental Health Day (10 Oct) and National Carers Week (12 Oct).

At Brothers, we know that mental health isn’t just a theme for one week, it’s a foundation for how we live, connect, and support one another every day. This month, we’re shining a spotlight on how we can all contribute to stronger mental health and wellbeing within our community:

  • Check-ins that Matter

A simple “How are you really going?” can open the door to deeper connection. We encourage every Brother, team member, and family member to pause, check in, and listen.

  • Conversations that Count

Through stories on our socials and within our houses, we’ll be sharing real experiences  reminding everyone that it’s okay to not be okay, and that reaching out for help is a strength, not a weakness.

  • Active Connection

Our Adventure Days, group sessions, and community activities continue to be safe spaces for honesty, courage, and mateship. These gatherings are where walls come down and true brotherhood is built.

As we move through October, let’s keep mental health front of mind, for ourselves, for our mates, and for the Brothers who show up every day with love and commitment.

ADHD Awareness Month

ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental conditions in Australia, affecting individuals and families in very real ways:

  • 6–10% of children and adolescents are diagnosed,  higher than global averages.

  • ADHD is more common in boys than girls, with 10.9% of boys aged 4–11 affected, compared to 5.4% of girls.

  • For many, ADHD continues into adulthood, with 2–6% of adults living with its challenges and strengths every day.

At Brothers, we believe ADHD is not just a condition to be “managed,” but part of the broader picture of neurodiversity that brings unique perspectives, talents, and ways of thinking.

This month, our focus will be on:

  • Creating Environments that Work

Through structured routines, skill-building programs, and independence-focused support, we help men with ADHD navigate daily life with more ease and confidence.

  • Celebrating Neurodiversity

Rather than seeing ADHD as a limitation, we highlight the strengths it can bring — creativity, energy, outside-the-box problem solving — and how these traits can enrich our community.

  • Reducing Stigma, Raising Awareness

By sharing information and real stories, we aim to break down stereotypes and help families, carers, and participants feel seen and supported.

ADHD is part of the Brothers story and together, we’re building spaces where every individual can thrive, grow, and belong.
